BMW Reveals Plans for Zero-Emission, Two-Wheel Travel

Many automakers, luxury and not, brought their latest evolutions of electric vehicles with them to the Frankfurt Motor Show. BMW, however, gave attendees a most pleasant surprise when they unveiled a zero-emission, pure-EV scooter, proving "eco-friendly" is not in any way dependant on wheel count.

The sporty, European-looking electric scooter concept is officially coined the BMW Motottad Concept E. Of course, BMW had performance top of mind when they set out to design it. They wanted the bike to deliver drivers the same performance as a 400-500cc. And, with 60 volts, a 60-mile driving range, and mere three-hour recharge time (using a standard 110-volt outlet), it does.

Even more traditional BMW car drivers will find it difficult to argue with the BMW Motottad Concpet E's functionality and stylishness. Its aerodynamic body is distinct but more understated than it could be. The loudest part of the concept scooter is perhaps its neon green panels. Otherwise it's quite streamlined.

To create a sleeker, more minimalistic look, BMW has replaced the traditional rear-view mirrors seen on previous-gen scooters with twin, rear-facing video cameras. These cameras project images of surrounding traffic onto a twin-LCD monitor on the dash, giving drivers a perpetual 360-degree perspective. The same twin-LCD monitor provides drivers with details on battery capacity and range, among other vital stats.

In addition to a suite of technological advancements, the concept continues to feature a couple of quintessential BMW elements. Take the traditional telescopic front suspension, for example...or the single-sided swingarm in the rear. These special touches remind us that while the BMW Motottad Concept E is new, it's made by one of the most successful and trusted automakers in the entire industry.

No details surrounding the potential to bring the BMW Motottad to production have been released at this time. Tulley BMW, located at 147 Daniel Webster Hwy Nashua, NH 03060, is, however keeping our ears out. And, we will let you know as soon as any further plans surrounding the fun concept scooter EV develop.
